Set 44 Pieces French Monogrammed Saint-Louis Crystal Cristal Münzthal Gilt Cluny 19th c. This is a rare set in the monogramed pattern Cluny. We are not crystal experts, but we believe there were two types of the Cluny pattern, both the same shape with a swirled base and gilt lip. The ones with monograms were otherwise plain the other Cluny pattern had a fancy gilding all over the body. I find the monogramed more elegant.
The monogram is hard to read. The thicker letter C or a G is probably the last name, the other letters are an A and a T or F.
The set is from the 19th century. Tall, 2 1/8 in diameter at mouth.9 tall shot glasses or juice. Tall, 2 1/8 wide at mouth. Tall, 1 7/8 wide at mouth. Tall, 2 ¾ wide at mouth. 4 large wine goblets or water goblets 5 ½ tall, 3 ½ wide at mouth.
2 stoppered decanters 12 tall, about 5 ½ wide x 4 deep at widest point of bulb. Almost all are in excellent condition, except for one of the wines which has a tiny rough spot, and some gold loss on the decanter lips and finials. The sizes given are approximate as there is slight variation since these were not made in a mold.
The decanters are engraved on the stopper and neck with a very small 72 and 48. We have other French Saint-Louis crystal listed. The decanters are not sick and stand straight if they seem otherwise it is an optical illusion.
